Vivo Debuts Its Y500 Brand In Kenya

vivo has introduced the Y500 smartphone in the Kenyan market, expanding its Y Series lineup with a device that focuses on battery life, durability and privacy features.

The new smartphone is equipped with an 8,100mAh BlueVolt battery, which the company says is the largest battery currently available in a smartphone in Kenya. The large battery is aimed at users who depend on their devices throughout the day for activities such as communication, work, digital payments, content creation and entertainment, reducing the need for frequent charging.

Alongside its battery capacity, the Y500 incorporates a new privacy system designed to give users greater control over their personal data when sharing their phones with others. The feature is intended to help safeguard sensitive information, including banking applications, private conversations, documents and stored passwords.

The device also features a 1.5K AMOLED display with a peak brightness of up to 5,000 nits, allowing the screen to remain visible in bright outdoor conditions. The display is designed to improve usability when browsing, streaming content, navigating or using social media under direct sunlight.

For durability, the Y500 comes with military-grade protection as well as IP68 and IP69 dust and water resistance ratings, offering protection against exposure to dust, water and accidental spills. The phone also supports underwater photography, enabling users to capture images in wet environments.

The vivo Y500 is available in Silk White and Midnight Blue and comes in two storage configurations: 6GB RAM with 256GB of internal storage, and 8GB RAM with 256GB of storage.

In Kenya, the 6GB + 256GB model is priced at $347 (KES 44,999), while the 8GB + 256GB variant retails at $385 (KES 49,999).
