William Kabogo Sworn In As CS ICT

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has officially taken office as the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.
The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by President William Ruto, was held on Friday at State House, Nairobi, following Kabogo’s approval by the National Assembly.
Kabogo’s appointment comes as the ministry faces critical challenges, with the docket having seen three Cabinet Secretaries in less than two years. He replaces Margaret Nyambura, who previously held the position.

During his vetting process at the National Assembly, Kabogo emphasized his intent to introduce new laws and regulations to protect Kenyan workers in the digital economy. He expressed concern over the exploitation of local workers by global corporations operating outside Kenya’s employment laws.
“If approved, I will ensure that Kenyans working in the digital economy are safeguarded from exploitation. This will be achieved through a comprehensive legislative framework,” Kabogo said.
Kabogo highlighted his qualifications for the role, citing his transformative leadership in Kiambu County as evidence of his capability.

“I believe this is a good job for me as ICT and Digital Economy Minister,” Kabogo stated. “While I was in Kiambu, I digitised the entire revenue collection system, which increased our annual revenues from $6.2M (KSH800 million) to $20,8 (KSH2.7 billion in just 14 months. Additionally, I digitised the health systems, ensuring that doctors could seamlessly provide treatment across all our hospitals.”
Kabogo’s appointment underscores President Ruto’s focus on strengthening Kenya’s digital economy and information systems. As the new CS, Kabogo will oversee critical areas, including digital infrastructure and ecitizen delivery.
With his swearing-in, Kabogo takes the reins of a ministry pivotal to Kenya’s future, as the government seeks to harness technology for economic growth and social development.
