UoN launches online grants management system

The University of Nairobi has launched the Research Grants Management Information System (RGMIS), which will facilitate grant seeking, management and output.

The move now automates tracking and monitoring of ongoing and pending academic grants proposals.

Speaking during the launch, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mbithi noted that the system will bring efficiency in the research process and urged the researchers to adopt it. The Vice-Chancellor, urged the development team from the ICT to incorporate other modules like the procurement process.

Through the system, UoN can increase the number of successful proposals by closely monitoring the pre-award activities pertaining to call opportunities, maintain an accurate and easily retrievable record of the grants project, their milestones, financials and other non-financial information and enhance tracking and communication of any project grant documentation to all stakeholders. In addition, the University can track projects from proposals to completion with an enhanced on-time donor reporting and provide accurate on-time grants Financial reports by University Financial systems integration and any other grant related management reports.

Prof. Henry Mutoro, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, noted that the system will automate the manual research process, help in tracking the research output and help the management in making decisions.

RGMIS has been developed in consultation with key stake holders in research management at the University. They include the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Research Production and Extension office, Finance Grants Management office, the Principal Researcher representatives from the colleges, the University Management Board and ICTC.
