Strathmore Uni, eGAZ Partner For Technological Advancement
The Zanzibar eGovernment Agency (eGAZ) has announced a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with iLabAfrica-Strathmore University. eGAZ is a public institution responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and promoting e-government initiatives as well as enforcing e-Government related policies, laws, regulations, standards, and guidelines for public insitutions.
The two organizations will work together on various initiatives designed to revolutionize the digital landscape and drive progress across multiple key areas. They have established a collaborative framework with the aim of facilitating the exchange of technology, knowledge, research, and innovation.
This partnership will lead to the creation of a state-of-the-art data center, a facility that will play an important role in ensuring the reliability, security, and accessibility of critical government data and services. The two institutions will seek to improve high-speed broadband connectivity within the region, a crucial infrastructure component for the seamless delivery of digital services to the public as well as provide valuable insights to the government agency that can inform and enrich other strategic initiatives.

@iLabAfrica-Strathmore University has been tasked to design, develop, and implement the Unified Government Platform (UGP-eCitizen)Services, a transformative initiative that promises to provide an array of digital services to Zanzibar’s citizens, merchants, businesses, tourists, and residents. The UGP-eCitizen Services will serve as a one-stop digital hub, simplifying access to essential government services and information. This project will also entail the establishment of a national QR code standard and a unique identification system designed to enhance the security and efficiency of e-service transactions conducted through the UGP.
During the signing Emmanuel Kweyu, Deputy Director at @iLabAfrica, said that this is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with eGAZ to advance digital services and infrastructure in Zanzibar.

The signing took place at @iLabAfrica- Strathmore university. In attendance was Dr. Joseph Sevilla, Director of @iLabAfrica, Jevis Omondi Okoth, Lead Consultant Fintech and Exponential Technologies at eGAZ, Dr Bill Kiwia, PhD, Commissioner Public Private Partnerships, Government of Zanzibar and @iLabAfrica head of departments.
