MultiChoice Announces Plans To Discontinue Showmax Streaming Service

Customers of MultiChoice Group have received communication informing them that the company intends to discontinue its streaming platform, Showmax, following a strategic review of the service.

In an email sent to subscribers, the company confirmed that the decision was made by the Showmax Board after what it described as a “comprehensive review” of the platform and the broader digital streaming landscape.

According to the notice, the move is part of MultiChoice’s broader strategy to strengthen its overall digital offering while ensuring long-term sustainability in a highly competitive streaming market.

Despite the announcement, the company reassured customers that the service will continue operating for the time being.“Importantly, at the moment there will be no interruption to your current service. You can continue streaming as usual, and no action is required from you at this time,” the company stated in the message to subscribers.

The company added that additional information will be shared with customers in advance of any changes, including timelines and any steps that subscribers may need to take as the transition approaches.

Launched as MultiChoice’s flagship streaming platform, Showmax has been positioned as a key part of the company’s digital strategy, offering a range of international and locally produced films, series, and sports content to viewers across Africa.
