Managing Directors Kris Senanu and Steve Okeyo have both opted to exit Telkom Kenya.
The Telkom family is less two of its senior members; Kris Senanu and Steve Okeyo, the Managing Directors of Digital Service Delivery Unit and Consumer Service Delivery Unit respectively. Announcing their exit in a statement was Telkom CEO, Mugo Kibati, he said, “Both Steve’s and Kris’s extensive management and industry experience have been fundamental in steering their respective Units through Telkom’s ongoing transformation.”
Kibati says of Senanu that he “leaves the Telkom family after close to five years, having infused the much-needed synergies and renewed vision into the Digital Unit, to enable it to focus on more innovative approaches that will create further value to Telkom’s customers.” The erudite Senanu’s experience in the ICT sector spans well over two decades. Prior to joining Telkom, Kris was the Deputy CEO at Internet Solutions (IS) Kenya.
Also exiting is Okeyo, the leadership guru and “an experienced cross-cultural business leader who has successfully handled commercial transformation assignments globally for over 20 years,” with a background as Director for Regional Sales & Operations at Safaricom. “After two years, Steve leaves the Telkom family, having provided the requisite leadership and ensuring that the processes and systems needed for the next phase of growth in the Consumer Unit are in place.”
The 22-year-old Telkom has over the years championed solutions locally and regionally not just to individuals, but to SMEs, government and Kenyan conglomerates. They launched a distinctive strategic direction in August 2020. This is where Kibati discussed the Airtel and Telcom merger that went awry thanks to multiple hurdles.
Had it succeeded, the Airtel-Telkom merger would have made for a formidable counter to Safaricom. Their now end game, as Kibati declares it, is to compete as a “technology partner of choice” to their clients, by boldly venturing into “fibre infrastructure, vast GSM Networks and digital financial services platform.” He further states that “The journey towards this new direction is very much on course and is now gathering momentum.”
Telkom, he says, has “already initiated the necessary processes with respect to management continuity in these two Units.”
