KCB And Visa Partnership Turns Smartphones Into POS
KCB Bank Kenya has partnered with Visa to introduce Tap-to-Phone, a contactless payment solution that allows merchants to accept card payments using only their Android smartphones.
With this solution, businesses no longer need a traditional point-of-sale (POS) machine, making digital payments easier and more affordable, especially for small and medium-sized businesses that often face barriers due to the expenses related to the purchase of POS infrastructure.
Speaking during the launch, KCB Bank Kenya Director of Retail Banking, Jane Isiaho said, “This partnership with Visa brings to life a powerful solution that gives every merchant the ability to accept digital payments using just a smartphone. We are simplifying access to payment acceptance, reducing operational costs, and empowering merchants to serve customers faster and more securely.”

The Tap-to-Phone solution is supported by Visa’s tokenization technology, which replaces sensitive card information with secure digital tokens, ensuring transactions meet global security standards. It also aligns with KCB’s broader digital and innovation strategy, which focuses on providing seamless, accessible payment options in response to evolving consumer behaviour.
On his part, John Njoroge, Visa Country Manager and Senior Business Development Leader for Kenya, South Sudan, and Somalia, commented , “Visa is proud to partner with KCB to expand access to safe, fast, and affordable payment acceptance for businesses across Kenya. Tap-to-Phone eliminates traditional barriers by turning the devices merchants already own into secure acceptance tools. This is how we unlock scale, drive inclusion, and build a stronger digital economy.”
The partnership builds on existing efforts to expand digital payment options for businesses and individuals. It also reflects the joint aim of KCB and Visa to increase financial inclusion and support the adoption of cashless payments in Kenya.
