Construction of Facebook’s Fort Worth Data Centre already underway

Facebook has announced that construction has already began on their new data center, which is set to be built in Fort Worth, Texas.

The data center will be Facebook’s fifth in the country after Data Centers in Prineville, Forest City, Lulea, and Altoona.

Ken Patchett, Director of Data Center Operations, West Region, informed the public of the finer details of the project, through a status update, on the newly opened Facebook page for the Data Center.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve started construction on our newest data center, right here in Fort Worth, Texas.” Mr. Patchett informed.

“Construction on the project is already under way on a 17,000-acre site in Clay County, just 90 miles from the data center, and we expect it to begin delivering clean energy to the grid by 2016. 200 MW is more energy than we will need for the foreseeable future, and we’re proud to have played a role in bringing this project to Texas.” He added.

The Fort Worth facility is set to be one of the most advanced, efficient, and sustainable data centers in the world. It will feature the latest in our Open Compute Project hardware designs — including Yosemite, Wedge, and 6-pack — and it will be cooled using outdoor air instead of energy-intensive air conditioners.

The Fort Worth data center will be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy, thanks to the 200 MW of new wind energy.

Mark Zuckerberg, chairman and chief executive of Facebook, updated his status, talking about the Data Center where he thanked the people of Fort Worth for welcoming the move.

“This is just one example of new technologies we’re building to create internet services at planetary scale. We’re grateful to the Fort Worth community for helping to make the world more open and connected, and we’re glad to be a part of that community,” he said.
