#CBS2016: Training institutions in Kenya will be required to produce ICT ready teachers

Teacher training institutions in Kenya are, in the near future, going to be required to produce graduates who are ready to teach and deliver content within a digital frame work.

This was said by, Education CS, Dr. Fred Matiang’I during the during the, ITU Global ICT Capacity Building Symposium being held at the Safari Park Hotel, Nairobui, Kenya.

“Going into the future, we are going to require that all teacher training institutions in our country are going to graduate teachers who are ready to teach and deliver content within a digital frame work,” said Matiang’I

“We can no longer continue to produce analogue teachers, because analogue schools are non-existent. We are moving to an environment of smart schools,” he added.

The ITU Global ICT Capacity Building Symposium is being hosted by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) in partnership with the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) from 5th to 8th September 2016 at the Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The overall objective for the symposium is to provide strategic direction to the national and international community, on issues relating to capacity building in the area of ICT. It also aims to strengthen cooperation among the global ICT capacity building community, particularly as the world focuses on the achievement of the 17 SDGs across all development sectors. For universities and other training providers, the Symposium provides a forum to gauge the market needs in terms of training and capacity building in the field of ICT, thus assisting them to effectively streamline their training and delivery programmes.
