AWS, OpenAI Announce $38B Strategic Partnership
Amazon Web Services (AWS) and OpenAI have announced a multi-year strategic partnership that will see AWS provide its world-class infrastructure to run and scale OpenAI’s core artificial intelligence (AI) workloads starting immediately.
Under the new $38 billion agreement, which is expected to grow over the next seven years, OpenAI will access AWS compute comprising hundreds of thousands of state-of-the-art NVIDIA GPUs, with the ability to expand to tens of millions of CPUs to rapidly scale agentic workloads.
AWS, known for its unmatched experience running large-scale AI infrastructure securely and reliably, with clusters topping 500,000 chips, will combine its cloud leadership with OpenAI’s generative AI expertise to help millions of users continue benefiting from ChatGPT and other AI tools.

The rapid advancement of AI technology has created unprecedented demand for computing power. As providers of frontier models strive to push their systems to new levels of intelligence, many are increasingly turning to AWS for its performance, scalability, and security. OpenAI will begin using AWS compute immediately, with all capacity expected to be deployed before the end of 2026, and expansion planned into 2027 and beyond.
The infrastructure AWS is deploying for OpenAI features a sophisticated, high-performance design optimized for AI processing efficiency. By clustering NVIDIA GB200 and GB300 GPUs through Amazon EC2 UltraServers on a unified network, OpenAI will achieve low-latency performance across interconnected systems, enabling efficient operation for both inference and training workloads. The architecture is built to adapt to OpenAI’s evolving needs, from serving ChatGPT to training the next generation of AI models.
“Scaling frontier AI requires massive, reliable compute,” said OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman. “Our partnership with AWS strengthens the broad compute ecosystem that will power this next era and bring advanced AI to everyone.”
