Safaricom hands over CCTV system to police this week
Safaricom is set to hand over the national surveillance system to the government this week after the completion of the project in Nairobi and Mombasa. The telecoms operator said the government would use the infrastructure at no cost for the first year as a way of ensuring that the company has provided a working solution.

Paperless cash transactions to boost foreign direct investments in Kenya
The adoption of paperless cash transactions in the matatu and retail sectors could further increase foreign direct investments in Kenya. In an analysis done by Frost & Sullivan dubbed ‘The Telecommunications Market in East Africa – Key Fixed and Mobile Market Indicators’ the mobile communications market in East Africa grew steadily at 11 per cent during the 2013-2014 period.
Kenya moves to curb SIM Boxes as illegal operators make a killing

Kenya is taking the lead in East Africa to curb the growing menace of illegal Sim Box businesses that are eating into tax revenues from telecoms and encouraging communications insecurity. The Director General of the Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya Francis Wangusi has revealed Communications Authority has written to and cautioned telecom operators in the country notifying them of impending inspection on their switches. The CA is also contemplating to acquire a monitoring system to be used in monitoring telecom traffic entering the country to be able to avoid any traffic coming through sim boxes.
MTN Uganda gives computers to 5 Kampala schools
Under the auspices of the ICT Clubs for Primary Schools initiative, the MTN Uganda Foundation today handed over 25 computers to 5 primary schools that are currently participating in the project. The ICT Clubs for Primary Schools initiative is part of the MTN Uganda Foundation strategy that focuses on investment in education currently being implemented in Kampala with the objective of creating social and peer-to-peer learning of information technology solutions from the grass root of the educational structures.
