WhatsApp, Facebook & Instagram Crash
WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram have crashed. The trio are all owned by the same company, Facebook, and all run on the same infrastructure. The outage happened a little past 6.30 pm local time.
The three apps keep showing error messages with Facebook stating that “Something went wrong. Please try again.” and “Tap to retry.” Meanwhile Instagram kept saying “Couldn’t refresh feed” while WhatsApp simply stopped working. No messages could be sent or delivered and the call function did not work either.
About half an hour in, the WhatsApp Twitter account reassured users that “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience!”

Facebook also took to Twitter just as everybody was making a mad dash to the platform to check in with other users if it was an individual thing. Here, they found Facebook allaying their users concerns by stating “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Facebook app. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
An outage of this magnitude is rare. Facebook is yet to issue a statement on the cause.
