VIDEO: Leveraging AI & Big Data to Address Manufacturing Challenges
When the COVID-19 pandemic came, it pressed us from all directions and we had to create and innovate in order to adapt to the new normal. Thankfully, the industry as a whole has sprung back in many sectors.
Automation and digitalization efforts that started during the times that the pandemic struck have helped many sectors in the industry to adapt. The Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Dangote Projects in Nigeria, Prassana Burri, gave a detailed explanation on how we can leverage AI and big data to address manufacturing challenges.
Prassana said that in as much as the current generation is a smart technology versant one, it is important that we embrace things that only make sense. He went on to give a classic example of the situation in Africa where we operate in a unique environment that is different from other parts of the world.

“We are blessed with a lot of natural resources in many parts of Africa, but we have our challenges with automation, power, infrastructure, and skills being scarce. We need to look at how we can meet these challenges and produce our products in a cost-effective manner and we can justify selling to our consumers for a competitive price in comparison to what the rest of the world produces,” Prassana said in his presentation.
In the embedded video, Prassana explains various ways Africa can leverage technology and its natural resources to maximise production and help the continent, generally.
The Dangote projects CIO gave his presentation at the 2021 edition of CIO Africa’s ‘Industry 4.0’ event.
