The reshuffle also saw to the appointment of a new Cabinet Secretary, Mr Joe Mucheru. , replacing Dr Fred Matiangi who moved to head the Education Ministry. The Ministry of ICT also has an additional Principal Secretary, Mr. Sammy Itemere, who will oversee Broadcasting & Telecommunications.
The ICT Authority has currently an Acting CEO, Mr. Robert Mugo appointed by the Board of Directors on 7th January 2016. Mr. Mugo is also the Director Shared Services at the ICT Authority and will handle all matters regarding the Authority before the CEO recruitment is finalized.
The Chief Executive Officer will be accountable to the Board of Directors in the implementation of the Authority Strategic Goals, management of resources, giving direction and leadership in the attainment of ICTA Mission and objectives.

The CEO shall be responsible for development of short and long-term business plans, execution of strategy, risk management and compliance to all constitutional provisions, Acts of parliament, statutory provisions, local and international regulations that apply to the operation and management of ICT Authority. In addition, the CEO shall be responsible for entrenchment of a high performance culture in the Organization, with high productivity and efficiency brought about by full utilization of investment in technology and other assets.
The Authority is tasked with rationalizing and streamlining the management of all Government of Kenya ICT functions. Its broad mandate entails enforcing ICT standards in Government and enhancing the supervision of its electronic communication. The Authority also promotes ICT literacy, capacity, innovation and enterprise in line with the Kenya National ICT Masterplan 2017.
