Tech Isn’t Always A Fix For A Business’ Broken Problem
“Technology may be able to fix many things, but should it?” asked Itumeleng Monale, COO of Johannesburg Stock Exchange Group. Speaking at the 2024 AWS Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, Monale delved into the dynamics that should be considered when a company seeks an IT solution to solve a business’ unaddressed process faults.
“It’s about asking why the process is there,” she said, stating most processes in place are checks and balances. “They are designed to check if something happened and are important to assure you that that has happened. And when that process spits out an alert, that means that something has gone wrong,” she said.
According to Monale, automating processes to deal with the additional workload that now exists to address the failure demand, as opposed to eliminating the cause of the initial failures, is a wiser course of action.
