Second Africa Tech Challenge kicks off, winners to get scholarship to study in China

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Kenya in conjunction with the China’s AVIC International Holding Corporation has rolled out the second phase of the Africa Tech Challenge.
The Challenge is designed to cultivate the spirit of entrepreneurship among students in:
Technical Training Institutions in Kenya, who plan to take up technical careers after they graduate, and aims to encourage more people to take technical courses to create employment and provide skilled workers for the government and the private sector.

Also, the Africa Tech Challenge will be running mobile Application Challenge competition which started on 22nd June 2015 to trigger creativity among the youth through developing a mobile Application of their choice.
Once it’s completed, the Mobile Application will then be supervised by a panel of experts to determine three best applications. The winners get a chance to win US $3,000, US $2,000 and US $1,000 respectively with a free laptop for each. The overall winner will also get a six month incubation period with GearBox, one of the Africa Tech Challenge partners.
The second phase of the Tech Challenge commences on 20th July 2015 with an intensive nationwide recruitment process of teams from different technical training institutes and universities around the country. The competition will begin with participants undergoing a rigorous training from the Chinese experts on how to use raw materials and machines as well as best techniques to use during the competition. Marks will then be awarded on skill, accuracy, cost of production and amount of raw materials used.

The winning teams will be awarded with a cash prize and a scholarship to study in the most prestigious Engineering Universities in China.
During the competition, the participants will also have the opportunity to interact with invited business leaders during the ATC Talks. These talks are meant to guide and mentor the participants and will feature different CEO’s, Entrepreneurs, Financial Advisers and Business Leaders.
This year’s Africa Tech Challenge will take place at Shamberere Technical Training Institute in Kakamega.
