Safaricom, Kisumu County Launch New Revenue System

The County government of Kisumu in partnership with Safaricom have launched an Integrated County Revenue Management System (ICRMS) to address the county’s challenges in optimising revenue collection, administration, and reporting.

The innovative platform will support various revenue services, including parking, markets, advertising, property rates and approvals, among other revenue services reducing queues and wait times at the county offices.

The ICRMS is designed to enhance citizen satisfaction by providing convenient service payment options. Residents can pay through various channels, including USSD (*427#), WhatsApp, the MyKisumu App, and a web self-service portal.

The system ensures real-time integration with payment channels like MPESA and banks for accurate reporting and reconciliation of transactions. Enhanced visibility and control are provided through dashboards accessible to executives, enabling effective monitoring of revenue performance and operations.

In the bid to streamline revenue collection and curb fraud in counties, Safaricom launched myCounty. This platform enables all 47 counties to digitise all their services in one place providing a single, citizen access channel in April 2023.

So far more than 10 counties have signed up for the platform, including payment for county services, revenue management systems, a citizen reporting and engagement tool, and solutions around agriculture, health, utility bills and SME programmes.
