Partnerships Are Key In Bringing Down The Cost Of Healthcare In Kenya
MYDAWA and Britam have unveiled the winners of the just concluded Pink Friday Campaign where the grand winner walked away with Ksh 1 million worth of insurance cover. The Managing Director of MYDAWA Tony Wood and the Britam General Manager in charge of health David Obonyo both agreed that partnerships and collaborations that bring innovation in healthcare hold the key to managing the high cost of healthcare in Kenya.
Statistics show that Out Of Pocket (OOP) health expenditure, a key indicator in the cost of healthcare, pushes more than 100 million people below the poverty line globally due to the financial burden.
“The biggest challenge facing the healthcare sector is the cost associated with innovative partnerships, but this can be managed. Britam is determined to work with like-minded partners like MYDAWA to offer affordable and convenient solutions to our customers,” said Obonyo.

On his part, Wood noted that there is a need for healthcare companies to jointly focus on innovative services that clients are looking for.
“We will continue to develop customer-focused solutions to enable better health outcomes for our clients and ensure they have access to an affordable and safe form of medication,” he said.
For Martha Murugi, 27 years old from Nairobi, the grand prize winner of the Pink Friday campaign, the win could not have come at a better time as she recently welcomed a newborn. She said the Milele Health cover plan will hugely impact her life and that of her other 3 family members for the next one year. The cover includes a Ksh 100,000 out-patient cover, Ksh 20,000 dental cover and Ksh 20,000 optical cover.

Three other winners; Elina Kulay, Musab Mohammed Yaseen and Jill Mayunga received the Milele Health premier inpatient cover worth Ksh 500,000 each courtesy of Britam.
The promotion was geared at showcasing Britam’s Milele plan which is the perfect health protection for individuals and families. To participants and win, clients were required to simply to log onto the MYDAWA website or app on Friday at 10am and search through the site for a product and purchase it before anyone else.

“With services such as Telehealth, customers are now able to book an online consultation, get access to a medical officer get a consultation service and at the same time if any medication is prescribed, they can get the drugs delivered to them at a very affordable price and, therefore, we should expect MYDAWA to have an impact on the cost of medication in Kenya,” added Muhiu.
