ODPC Kenya Shines At Global Privacy Assembly With Four Awards
The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner of Kenya (ODPC) was awarded the global privacy and data protection awards in 4 categories during the 47th Global Privacy Assembly held in Seoul, South Korea.
The categories where the office was recognized include Education and Public Awareness; Dispute Resolution and Enforcement Measures; Innovation; and People’s Choice Award.
Under the education and public awareness, the office was recognized for making significant efforts to help instill a culture of sharing experience and tools in digital education and raising public awareness, which is essential to changing social and cultural norms.

In dispute resolution and enforcement measures, the ODPC was recognised in honour of its exceptional contribution and exemplary commitment to playing a vital role in dispute resolutions in breaches and enforcement for non-compliance with the law in data privacy and protection. This helped the office achieve a significant milestone and leaving a remarkable impression on the assembly.
The innovation category highlighted the ODPC’s work in developing and deploying its chatbot, which has been praised as a pioneering solution that enhances access to information while demonstrating the office’s commitment to embracing technology for efficiency. The People’s Choice Award further cemented Kenya’s standing in the global community, recognising the ODPC’s dedication, solidarity, and leadership in advancing the cause of privacy and data protection.
Speaking after the recognition, Immaculate Kassait, the Data Commisioner lauded her team, the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy (ICDE), and partners such as GIZ Kenya for their role in making this achievement possible.

“This recognition is not just for the ODPC, but for Kenya as a whole. It demonstrates our commitment to building a safe and trusted digital ecosystem where the rights of citizens are protected,” Kassait noted.
