Nigeria Unveils AI Tool To Boost Public Services

Nigeria has introduced Service-Wise GPT, an AI-powered tool designed to enhance efficiency and streamline public service delivery. The announcement was made by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in Nigeria, Didi Esther Walson-Jack, during her presentation at the Global Government Summit 2025 in Singapore.
Service-Wise GPT is a user-focused AI assistant that simplifies access to critical governance documents, including Public Service Rules, Statutory Instruments, Regulations, and Guidelines. Walson-Jack emphasized that the tool, currently in its Beta phase, will revolutionize administrative processes by automating policy drafting, official memo writing, and providing real-time policy research assistance.
“Applying Service-Wise GPT would save time and reduce administrative task hours for civil servants, improve compliance, ensure regulatory adherence, enhance productivity, facilitate faster decision-making across ministries, and ultimately improve service delivery,” she stated.

Bureaucratic inefficiency has been one of the main issues facing Nigeria’s public sector, frequently impeding the provision of efficient services. By automating repetitive administrative processes like policy analysis and memo production, Service-Wise GPT seeks to solve this issue by cutting down on delays and increasing operational effectiveness.
She noted that respondents praised Service-Wise GPT for its role in improving work efficiency and transparency in governance. “73% of users saved 2–3 hours daily, and the tool received a 90% user recommendation rate for its efficiency and accessibility,” She stated.
She also underscored the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing governance through AI, stating, “The Service-Wise GPT is a testament to the commitment of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Federal Government to leveraging technology for the public good.”

The introduction of Service-Wise GPT aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to harness AI for national development. In April 2024, the Federal Government announced plans to assemble 120 Nigerian researchers, startups, and stakeholders to develop a cohesive framework for AI implementation across the country. This initiative aims to address challenges in key sectors such as education, agriculture, and healthcare.
The launch of Service-Wise GPT is a key component of Nigeria’s broader push to adopt AI in governance, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This initiative seeks to modernize the civil service and leverage technology for improved public service delivery.
Additionally, the government has set an ambitious goal to create 50,000 AI-related jobs by 2030, positioning Nigeria as a global hub for AI model training and talent development. In July 2024, Vice President Kashim Shettima launched the AI Expertise Blockchain and Technology Training and Outsourcing Initiative in Jigawa State. This program aims to train 1,000 Nigerians annually in cutting-edge technologies like AI and blockchain, enhancing the nation’s digital capabilities and workforce readiness.
