Col. Kariuki a career security professional, joins KRA after a distinguished career with the Kenyan Military where he served in varied roles including his latest posting as Colonel in charge of operations at Kenya Defence Forces Headquarters.
He began his career as an Airforce Pilot to become officer commanding F5 Squadron in 1996. He moved up ranks to become colonel in charge of operations at Airforce Headquarters prior to his deployment to the defence headquarters in similar capacity in 2013.

Among the key priorities in his new capacity at KRA will be implementing a national scanner Management platform with centralized Command and Control capability. The process to implement this project is already in high gear with successful tenderers having been shortlisted after expressions of interests advertised in October 2015.
He will also be required to upgrade scanning resources at Kilindini Port where installation for three new scanners is in progress.
Colonel Wahome will oversee other supporting programmes in progress including the joint implementation by KEBS/KRA of the pre-verification of conformity to standards Programme and the reform of shipping manifest lodgement process by pass intermediaries. Besides, work to develop the state of the art integrated customs management system, has commenced with expectations to conclude by mid 2017.

“Once the various programmes are fully implemented the landscape for customs and border control department is headed to become markedly different within the next 18 months as compared to what prevails today. On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff of KRA, I welcome Colonel Kariuki into the KRA fold and wish him success in his role,” concluded Mr. Njiriani.
