Safaricom has collaborated with Vesen and Anga Cinemas to pull movie enthusiasts by enabling them to book tickets via an M-Pesa supper app that integrates the M-Pesa mini-app. M-Pesa App users can conveniently view movie schedules, and book tickets for all Anga cinemas.
Through the partnership, Anga is targeting more than 7.4 million customers with a super app. They aim to draw new viewers to theatres and sell additional tickets to moviegoers through enticing offers and convenience in the booking. That’s to say moviegoers can enjoy the privileges of the service at Anga CBD, Anga Diamond, and Anga Sky cinemas.
“We are excited to partner with Safaricom to provide customers on M-PESA with a convenient way to view upcoming movies and book tickets through the Anga Mini App,” said Kenneth Kimutai, Managing Director, Anga.
“Through this partnership, we can reach customers directly on their phones and offer them a widely preferred payment choice to book their tickets,” he added.
The Mini app has proved to be convenient as customers could book tickets from the comfort of their homes. The M-Pesa app is available on the Play Store for installation. This initiative is a great investment for Kenya in the film industry. It shows Kenya has potential in this industry, consequently, attracting international filmmakers thus contributing a great deal to the future of the film industry.
“We are thrilled to be part of this amazing journey by providing technology that allows cinemas to connect to partners such as the M-PESA Super App. Our goal is to increase customer satisfaction and reduce the long queues in the cinema halls by diversifying ticket sale points. As the lead, I am proud of the work done by our skilled technical team and this marks the beginning of building more technology bridges,” said John Ndungu, CEO – Vesen Computing.
Anga has become part of the M-PESA Super App, which is hosting over 45 other Mini-Apps. This move reflects a growing trend among businesses that are capitalizing on the popularity of M-PESA to enhance their customer base and boost revenue. Subsequently, Safaricom takes charge of the distribution and marketing efforts for the businesses featured on the M-PESA Super App, while also earning transaction fees. As at March 2023, the number of businesses on Lipa Na M-PESA had grown to more than 606,000 transacting over KSh. 1.6 trillion over the last 12 months.
“The Anga M-PESA Mini App seeks to provide movie goers with increased convenience, enabling them to view schedules and book tickets from wherever they are while drawing more customers to cinemas. This partnership with Anga goes beyond providing movie tickets and brings us closer to our ambition to make the M-PESA Super App a digital lifestyle enabler for our customers,” said Peter Ndegwa, CEO Safaricom.
