Kenya’s College of insurance (COI) known for certification in proficiency in insurance in the region, announced that it is in the process of getting all its courses available on Blackboard e-learning platform by 2020.
This was announced by Mr. Abiud Ogechi, Head of ICT, College of insurance, during a breakfast event hosted, by Blackboard and Crescentech, at Aspire Center, Nairobi, Kenya.
“We went to e-learning because of some of the challenges we had especially in-terms of accessibility and scalability,” said Mr. Ogechi.

“While there has been a growing need for middle-level practioner training, the global education trend is to offer online courses that are more affordable and can reach a wider population. However, our conversation with many local institutions reveals that while there is a desire to adopt online learning, the institutions do not have a strategy to re-design their face-to-face courses into online courses,” Said Blackboard in a statement.
He explained further that, the institution started their journey towards e-learning with Blackboard this year, where it has been about, including their short courses and branding of their portal. In 2019 they plan on going a step further by including examinations and additional courses. By 2020 Mr. Ogechi predicts that the College of insurance will have all its courses on e-learning, at the same time offering video sessions for students.
The event provided insights on how to transition to blended (online and face-to-face) e-learning modules for middle level institutions. And how Blackboard can allow such institutions to transition.
