Kenya Power, Huduma Among the Govt Agencies Feted at KIW
The Kenya National Innovation Agency (KeNIA) held a three day event to celebrate Kenyan innovators at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete.
This year’s event was dubbed Kenya Innovation Week a change from the previous one which was the Nairobi Innovation Week. This broadened the scope as innovators from all over the country came in to showcase their inventions and innovations.
The event was capped with an Awards Gala Dinner where top innovators were feted for their work.

The awardees were applicants of the National Innovation Awards, whose calls were rolled out earlier this year. The awarded categories included Government Agencies, Assistive Technologies and Villgro health innovations.
The awarded government agencies were CEMASTEA, National Construction Authority, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, Huduma whitebox Kenya, Kenya Energy Generating Company (KenGen), Kenya Power Lighting Company, Kenya Trade Network Agency, Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company LTD, Homabay county government and Maasai Mara University.
For the assistive technology category the winners were KAFU teaching and training device, Syna Consultancy Ltd, UTULAV toilet and Keen Heart Disease Monitor Bracelet.

Villgro health innovations that were awarded were Revital Healthcare, Veezaviz, Neural Labs, Malaika Vital Watch and Cematte Air.
KeNIA CEO Dr. Tonny Omwansa has congratulated all the awardees and urged them to keep the innovative spirit.
The event was officially closed by PS. Amb. Simon Nabukwesi. While addressing delegates, innovators, and investors, the PS appreciated the CS. Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Magoha for fully supporting the great idea of the Kenya Innovation Week.

At the same time, the PS urged all the key players to keep the innovation network alive since the ecosystem depends on every party. He further emphasized that learning, funding and innovation go hand in hand thus making the synergy crucial. He further stated that the Ministry of Education together with KeNIA they would create a database of all startups, innovations, accelerators and hubs.
