Huawei Kenya to offer customers value for money with newly launched Y9 2019

Huawei Mobile Kenya has launched its latest mid-range device, the Huawei Y9 2019, in the market with a recommended retail price of Ksh. 24,990. The Chinese phone maker however, has partnered with Jumia Kenya to allow customers to get value for money when pre-ordering the device via the e-commerce site.

This was announced by Huawei, Head of Eastern Africa Mobile, Steven Li, during the official launch at Sarova Stanley Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya, who said that once customers pre-order the device from Jumia and deposit Ksh. 4,000 they will receive a gift pack worth kshs. 8,000 upon completion of payment.

Ahead of launching the Y9 2019 device in the Kenyan market, the company had also rolled out a campaign dubbed “price guess” where the general public were encouraged to reveal how much the phone would retail and win gift hampers. The new device has been introduced in the market under the Y series family following previous launches of Y7 Prime 2018 that retails at Kshs 17,999 and Y5 Prime 2018 retails at Kshs 9,999.

Speaking of the campaign, Li said, “Once again there is a new and exciting smartphone joining the Huawei device family in Kenya! The countdown to the launch of the Huawei Y9 2019 has just began and even before getting to experience the unique features this smartphone, there are a number of exciting things. Everyone now can take part in the price guessing activity both online and offline and the lucky winners who manage to guess the correct price of the Huawei Y9 2019 will get giveaways with a range of gifts and assorted prizes.” He concluded.

The public launch will be done on the 27th October 2018, at Two Rivers Mall and Thika Road Mall, Nairobi, Kenya.

Targeting the youth

“We are delighted to announce the arrival of the Huawei Y9 2019 into this market. We believe that it will be a favourite, mainly amongst Kenyan youth due to its favourable price and superior features,” said Li during the launch.

Some of the features on the device includes two cameras at the back, and two cameras at the front. The device maker focused on the front camera with a pairing of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors which suggests Huawei’s targeting of the “the selfie-generation”. At the rear the dual-camera setup includes a pair of 13-megapixel, and 2-megapixel sensors. The cameras also incorporate some of Huawei’s AI features.The other Sensors on the phone include Fingerprint sensor, Compass/ Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer and Ambient light sensor.

the Huawei Y9 (2019) flaunts a 6.5-inch FHD+ (2340×1080 pixels) display with a notch at the top. The phone is powered by Huawei’s Kirin 710 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB RAM and a 64GB ROM, the phone supports microSD cards to further expand the memory. Allowing the device to function is a 4000 mAh battery with an AI Power saver mode.
