Easy Clinic’s AI Tool Cuts Diagnostic Errors, Featured By OpenAI
Easy Clinic’s AI-powered decision support tool, AI Consult, has slashed diagnostic errors by 16 per cent and treatment errors by 13 percent, according to a large-scale study across 15 clinics in Nairobi. The achievement has earned the healthtech company a spotlight feature by OpenAI, marking a major milestone in African medical AI.
The study, which analysed nearly 40,000 patient visits at Penda Health facilities, positions AI Consult as one of the first AI tools of its kind validated at scale in Africa. The tool integrates directly into Easy Clinic’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, offering real-time clinical support with a simple traffic-light alert mechanism: green for confirmation, yellow for suggestions, and red for urgent alerts.
This is not just about a better algorithm, but about a practical, user-friendly system. “AI Consult works in real time to support clinicians, helping them make more accurate diagnoses and ultimately improving patient care,” said Girish Mohata, CEO of Easy Clinic

Designed for seamless integration, AI Consult eliminates the need for doctors to actively trigger it. Instead, it activates automatically as they move through patient data fields, ensuring timely, relevant insights without disrupting workflows. This human-centered design minimizes alert fatigue, a common pitfall in clinical decision software.
“At Penda, we believe in combining technology with compassionate care,” added Dr. Sarah Kiptinness, Head of Clinical Quality and Innovation at Penda Care. “With AI Consult, we’re empowering our clinicians and transforming how care is delivered.”
The system was designed to work with different AI models, and it initially used GPT-4 for its quick response times – important for clinicians who need fast feedback. Instead of requiring clinicians to click a button, the system triggers automatically when they move away from a key field in the EMR, giving feedback at the right moment.

The success of AI Consult offers a real-world blueprint for CIOs and healthtech leaders on bridging the “model-to-implementation” gap that has long plagued AI in medicine.
“This success strengthens our goal to expand Easy Clinic’s reach worldwide,” Girish said. “By showing that AI-driven healthcare is possible anywhere, we’re not just setting a new standard for healthtech in Africa, we’re creating a model for others to follow.”
