dx100 Awards: Connecting The Dots In Cyber Security
Security in digital transformation is a very crucial topic that is also becoming too wide to unpack in a short time. At the dx100 Symposium & Awards, for instance, the panels and presentation could not delve the deepest into sectors of cybersecurity, let alone digital transformation.
To have the control of cybersecurity at your company, it is important to also get a hang around all the different aspects of security. It is crucial to connect all the dots in cybersecurity and ensure that you have checked all the boxes before you consider your company to be secure.
At the dx100 Symposium and Awards, Secureworks’ Territory Manager for Emerging Africa, Ivy Kashero, talked about what are the important areas to keep a keen eye on when trying to connect the dots in cybersecurity.

Secureworks is a leader in Cybersecurity providing solutions and threat intelligence that reduces risk, optimizes IT and security investments, and fills security team talent gaps. It’s well known for its cybersecurity analytics cloud platform, Secureworks, Taegis, which is built on 20+ years of real-world threat intelligence and research. It improves your ability to detect advanced threats, streamline and collaborate on investigations, and automate the right actions
In her presentation, Ivy spoke of the various tools that a cyber security head (for instance a Chief Information Security Officer – CISO) is given to ensure the company is secure. As per the SecureWorks Territory Manager, getting the tools is not enough as you need to connect them all together and create a solution that will work for your firm.
“These days, you are given so many tools but the big question is how you will be able to ensure that you maximise return on investment. The company must have already paid a lot for the tools at your disposal and it will be equally important to give them a value for the investment,” she said.

Ivy further added that it is also important to know why you are investing in the cybersecurity tools that you are investing. She specifically talked about the main reasons people invest heavily in cyber security is to protect huge amounts of data you are either collecting or already have in your systems.
“The main reason people invest a lot is for cyber security of their data. When we are investing in these technologies, we have to keep in mind that we can also leave threats,” Ivy Kashero commented, “It’s good to have a firewall here, and an app solution there but what is important is that you get an overview of the entire infrastructure and where the bigger risks lie.”
The dx100 Symposium & Awards have attracted tech leaders from across the continent. Digital Transformation and cyber security are topics that need to be discussed deeply among industry players from different sector.
