The CIO Council is looking to engage a Managed Security service (MSS) provider to build and operate an outsourced security operations center (SOC) with Next-Generation Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) capabilities in a Build-Operate model.
This announcement was made today by, Nizar Tundai, CIO of DTB, during “The Year Ahead” conference organized by CIO East Africa.
Mr Tundai, will chair the SOC, whose participants will include; Britam, CBA, DTB, Equity Bank and Strathmore University.

“Most organizations that we spoke to had plans to implement cyber defense capabilities however the limiting factors were (lack of); skill sets, investments and local partners to help implement this,” Mr Tundai said.
He said that these challenges drove the council into the realization that this was a field (Cyber security) it could better for Kenyan companies. The Council’s objective of establishing an outsourced SOC is to build a secure and robust IT ecosystem for corporate that will provide an effective threat management approach to mitigate against the ever- evolving threat landscape by:
Monitoring, analyzing, correlating and escalating intrusion event, identifying trends in security threats and their potential impact on business, developing appropriate responses for protection defense and response, conducting security incident management and forensics investigation and providing insightful cyber risks and compliance monitoring.
