The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) that will see the two regulators collaborate harmoniously in executing their mandate on matters of common jurisdiction.
Addressing a joint press briefing, CA Director General, Francis Wangusi described the event as monumental saying the MOU would address issues of competition between the two organizations.
‘‘This MOU will hasten the decision making process and guide the agencies in the extent of consultations to create a harmonious environment for investors,’’ said Wangusi.

His CAK counterpart, Francis Wang’ombe lauded the move saying it creates a framework of understanding how to deal with issues of commonality on matters pertaining to competition in the ICT sector.
The MOU provides for the sharing of information between the two agencies to avoid duplication and contradictory decisions which may not be healthy for investors. It will see the formation of a joint working committee that will come up with programme of activities on the implementation of the agreement, with emphasis on concurrent jurisdiction, stakeholder engagement on matters of competition.
The signing of the agreement comes a few weeks after the Authority signed a similar MOU with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) that will strengthen the Authority’s regulatory capabilities especially in promoting market
