In-store smartphone payments take off as enterprises lead in technology adoption – Deloitte
In-store smartphone purchases worldwide will increase by more than 1,000 per cent from last year while the mobile wallet won’t replace the traditional wallet yet with 2015 being a tipping point toward wider consumer adoption of in-store smartphone payments.

This is according to the 14th edition of Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) Predictions, a report by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (Deloitte Global). Additionally, Deloitte Global predicts that print books will continue to dominate the publishing industry and account for 80 per cent of all book sales by dollars and units, and that 2015 will be the year where enterprise will be ahead of consumers for adoption of new technologies such as 3D printing, Internet of Things (IoT) and drones.
Media houses to sell internet-enabled digital TV decoders
A consortium made up of Kenya’s three leading media houses – Nation Media Group (NMG), Royal Media Services (RMS) and Standard Group (SG) – have placed orders to import over 150,000 digital TV set-top boxes that are set to retail for as low as Kshs 2,000 each.

This comes after the three media houses were awarded a license to carry their own digital signal. The Internet-ready set-top boxes are expected to arrive in the country in the next three weeks. The devices are also set to offer consumers cheaper free-to-air digital converters in the market.
Juliana Rotich to lead #KOT in a CNN’s ‘African Start-Up’ Twitter discussion tomorrow
Juliana Rotich, a renowned Kenyan technologist, who co-founded Ushahidi, iHub and BRCK will tomorrow on Wednesday, 14th January from 6pm lead Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) and other Twitter users from across Africa in a Tweetchat hosted by the weekly CNN’s ‘African Start-Up programme.’

The discussion will explore ‘HOW TO TAKE STARTUPS TO THE NEXT LEVEL” and Juliana Rotich and other special guests’ will help entrepreneurs from Kenya and across the continent respond to elaborate on this.
LG receives 41 awards at this year’s international CES
LG Electronics (LG) won an unprecedented 41 awards at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES),
LG earned accolades from Engadget, USA Today/Reviewed.com and Digital Trends, among many others, as well as 10 CES Innovation Awards from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) across multiple home entertainment, home appliance and mobile device categories. CEA also named LG the 4K Ultra HD Partner of International CES 2015.

Next time you see that drone above you, watch out it could be a Paparazzi, this is after CNN received a special permission from the U.S Government to explore the use of drones for reporting.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had gone back and forth on its stance regarding commercial drone use, until CNN entered a “cooperative research and development agreement” with the administration “to advance efforts to integrate unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into newsgathering and reporting.”
