Audit report values Kenya’s entertainment and media industry at Kshs 191 billion
The value of Kenya’s entertainment and media industry last year hit Kshs 191 billion, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has said in a report released last week. This is a 13.3 per cent increase from 2013, when the sector was valued at Sh155 billion. The audit firm added that indications are that the industry will be worth Sh350 billion by 2019.

25 companies submit Expression of Interest Proposals for the Digital Literacy Program
The Digital Literacy Program Expression of Interest proposals were opened today at 10am at the ICT Authority offices. In the opening, a total number of 25 companies/consortium successfully submitted their proposals by the deadline. The meeting witnessed by the various vendors, government officials and members of the technical and procurement team, saw the proposals received for the supply of goods and related services for the Digital Literacy Program. One more company was disqualified for late submission.
State launches official online portal dubbed ‘makeitkenya’

The government has launched its official online portal dubbed makeitkenya. Through the portal tourists and investors will access information about ideal tourist destinations and investments opportunities in the country. Tourism Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Kandie says the portal represents the official online face of Kenya and will help advance Kenya’s image abroad.
Kenyan tech firm launches education solution for developing countries
BRCK Education, a division of BRCK, has today launched a value priced tablet that will be running web-based content and locally cached videos. Dubbed ‘BRCK-Kio’, the tablet is one component of a game-changing portable kit, which is made up of 40 ruggedized BRCK Kio tablets; a BRCK, which is an internet connectivity device made for low infrastructure environments; wireless charging to reduce breakage, and a hardened, waterproof, lockable case for added security. The kit and everything inside it is ruggedized to be both dust and water resistant.

Six accused of graft in Nyamira County may be reinstated
Six officials of the Nyamira county government, who were suspended after being implicated in corruption in their departments and incompetence claims, may be reinstated after the assembly failed to substantiate their cases. The officers in question are executive members John Omanwa (Finance and Planning), Peter Ogwara (Education and ICT), Andrew Ombati (Health) and Kefa Osoro (Public Works and Transport). Others are Chief Officers Fridah Nyaboga (Gender and Sports) and Ernest Morara (Roads and Public Works).
