Netherlands govt earmarks $1.2 million to enhance Kenya’s IT and ITES exports
The Netherlands government set to fund US $1.2 million IT and ITES projects in Kenya to help boost the export of Kenya’s IT and IT-enabled services (ITES). The funding of the IT projects is part of two new projects totalling to US $2.2 million in both the IT and Horticulture sectors.

The Netherlands is also injecting US $1 million in an avocado export-promotion project. These two projects are set to run concurrently through to 2017.
Safaricom now conducts online survey to gauge customer perception about its services
Safaricom is through its PR consultants conducting an online survey to find out what customers think of its services. The online survey is being offered via SurveyMonkey. It contains seven questions, four of which are multiple choice questions while the rest are open-ended questions requiring respondents to provide more comprehensive feedback.

Kenya Climate Innovation Center launches first crowd-funding program in East Africa
The Kenya Climate Innovation Center (KCIC), an initiative of the World Bank and its global entrepreneurship program infoDev — has officially launched the first-ever support program for crowdfunding in East Africa. In its pilot phase, the program has helped six clean-tech ventures design, develop, and launch their online crowdfunding campaigns.
BBC World Service launches Kenyan hackathon to ensure its digital future in Africa

The BBC World Service is one of the most pervasive and important radio offerings on the planet. As the world inevitably spends less and less time listening to physical radio sets however, the service has to ensure that it still has a presence in the digital space.
One way it’s aiming to do that is by teaming up with BBC’s digital innovations team, Connected Studio to hold a hackathon event on 3-4 February in Nairobi, Kenya, to generate and develop ideas that will help it connect with digital audiences across Africa.
M-PESA voted Kenya’s top brand
Mobile money payment service M-PESA has been voted as Kenya’s leading brand in the Top 20 super brands in Kenya survey. The survey conducted by the London-based Centre for Brands Analysis indicates that the M-PESA brand moved five places from the last survey done in 2012. Coming second is the Kenya Red Cross Society while Safaricom comes in third place dropping two places from the previous survey.
