World Bank calls on Kenyan bloggers to give views on poverty mitigation

Through a statement posted on the World Bank website,the blog contest dubbed as #EndPovertyinKenya will require bloggers to highlight what, in their opinion, Kenya has done to reduce poverty. What issues they would like the World Bank to highlight, and which areas do they think would have the biggest impact on reducing poverty.

In addition bloggers will also have to discuss on their blogposts what they think could make poverty reduction efforts more effective in the future.

The overall winner will win a trip to Washington DC where he or she will join bank staff, global policy makers, non-governmental organisations and development decision makers from April 17 to 19 this year. The first runners up will get recognition during the ceremony at the World Bank office in Nairobi.

Top 10 submissions in the contest will be published on the World Bank blog, Nasikiliza, as well as on the World Bank’s Kenya webpages.

To be eligible, for the competition one must be a Kenyan citizen living anywhere in the world, between the ages of 18-35, in any profession, including working journalists, social media or bloggers for media outlets.

Interested candidates should submit an original blog entry of no more than 500 words by February 15 to the EndPovertyinKenya Blog Contest hush tag (#EndPovertyinKenya) or endpovertyinkenya@worldbank.org. Winners will be announced on March 2015.

Winners will be selected — by a panel of three to five judges made up of World Bank staff in Kenya — on the basis of originality, creativity and substantive messages .
