Vine launches kids version, Vine Kids

Vine, a short-form video sharing service, recently announced the conception of Vine Kids.

The new service, Vine Kids, was announced through the official vine blog whereby, a statement explains that the intention behind the conception is to ensure that young children have access to kid friendly videos.

“We’ve seen for ourselves – and heard from parents, siblings and others – that kids love Vine. So, we built Vine Kids, a simple new app that gives young children a fun way to watch Vines. Through adorable animated characters, kids can watch videos that are appropriate for a young audience. Swiping right or left shows a new Vine, and you can tap the screen to hear quirky sounds.” The statement read.

“The idea came about during an office conversation in early January. One of my colleagues was talking about how much his two-year-old daughter loves Vine –– he said he wished there was a separate app she could use to more easily watch posts that are appropriate for kids.” It added.

“That week happened to be Hack Week, a time when we get to work on projects outside of our day-to-day work. So two folks teamed up and built exactly that. Here’s a Vine of my co-worker’s daughter using the app.” It concluded.

The Vine service allows users to record and edit five- to six-second-long looping video clips, and to “revine”, or share others’ posts with followers.

The videos can then be published through Vine’s social network and shared on other services such as Facebook and Twitter.

Vine’s app can also be used to browse through videos posted by other users, along with groups of videos by theme, and trending, or popular, videos.

Vine Kids is available on iOS, and can be downloaded from the App Store.
