University of Nairobi (UoN) and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the Kenya-Korea Science and ICT Co-operation seminar hosted by the National Information Society Agency of Korea to collaborate in the fields of academic exchange and research.
The seminar coincided with the Kenyan visit by President Park Geun-hye and the forum was to foster knowledge sharing between the two countries that will contribute towards the digital transformation of Kenya.
In featured news by the University of Nairobi, the collaboration shall essentially involve exchange of Faculty members, exchange of students and joint research.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Principal Secretary, Information Communication and Technology, the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education Science & Technology underscored the need for knowledge creation to be anchored on actual opportunities. He indicated the desire of the Ministry to continue using Universities and Colleges in this regard, saying that this will soon be upped to work through Private Public Partnerships (PPPS). He said that Kenya is keen to accelerate its technological positioning with the assistance of Korea, in line with the aspirations of Kenya’s Vision 2030.
The MoU that was signed will be implemented through the Wangari Maathai Institute (WMI), College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences. It will deal with issues of the environment and climate change.
