Uganda hosts 2019 African Internet Summit

Kampala will in June 2019, play host to hundreds of key players in the African and Global Internet industry sector at the Africa Internet Summit 2019.

Dubbed the AIS’19, the Internet Summit is scheduled for the 9^th through 21st June 2019 at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala and will be graced by H.E Frank K. Tumwebaze the MP and Minister for ICT & National Guidance in Uganda, who will officiate the Opening Ceremony on Monday 17^th.

AIS’19 is a platform for technocrats and business people to discuss policies, trends, resources and challenges in growing internet for sustainable development in Africa and the Indian Ocean Region. It is being hosted by African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC) and The African Network Operators Group (AfNOG) in collaboration with NFT Consult, the local hosts from Uganda.

The annual event will consist of keynote speeches, policy discussions, seminars, workshops, tutorials and other forums for sharing ICT knowledge within the African region. Last year, Senegal hosted the event whose attendance hit 542 delegates from across 61 countries.

Internet penetration has seen a growth in Africa from 11% to 28.6% in just about 5 years, a growth largely associated with Internet training summits like the AIS that is usually held annually across the globe. The growth has however not failed to bring with it a cup of challenges, some major ones being the electronic fraud and cyber insecurity and attacks, all that is up for deliberation during the AIS 2019 Kampala event.
