Trust Issues Threaten Kenya’s Digital Future

Trust has emerged as one of the biggest challenges to digital transformation in Kenya, with industry leaders calling for stronger measures to protect digital investments and build trust in online services.
Speaking at the Africa CISO Summit, Stanley Kamanguya, CEO, ICT Authority of Kenya, emphasized that trust is the cornerstone of successful digital transformation.
“The biggest hindrance to digital transformation is trust. It takes significant time and resources to build digital infrastructure, but I don’t know how long it takes to take them down,” Kamanguya stated.

He stressed that cybersecurity professionals play a crucial role in ensuring the stability and growth of Kenya’s digital economy. “Without trust, both citizens and businesses will hesitate to embrace digital services, making it essential for government and private sector collaboration to create a secure digital ecosystem.”
Kamanguya further urged private sector players to work alongside the government in co-creating digital services that drive business opportunities for Kenyan companies.
The Summit was officially opened by William Kabogo, Cabinet Secretary for ICT & Digital Economy (MICDE), who reinforced the government’s commitment to cybersecurity and cloud computing – two critical pillars driving Kenya’s digital transformation.

“Cloud computing and cybersecurity are key to scaling operations, reducing costs, and improving service delivery,” said CS Kabogo in his keynote address.
To strengthen Kenya’s cybersecurity landscape, the government has developed the Kenya Cloud Policy, outlining clear guidelines and standards to enhance cyber resilience and workforce upskilling in cloud security.
The Africa CISO Summit has convened CISOs, government officials, regulators, and industry experts from across the continent to tackle critical cybersecurity challenges. Over two days, top cybersecurity professionals will present insights and engage in panel discussions on securing Africa’s digital economy.
