The role of humans in an AI driven world

As artificial intelligence soars to even greater heights in the corporate and economic worlds, there has always been a particular notion dwelling in the foreground. This notion is how and where humans will fit in this jigsaw puzzle that is being created by AI. It is a relatively well-known understanding that artificial intelligence will amplify human effectiveness but also threaten human autonomy, and capabilities. The wide-ranging probabilities; that computers might match or even exceed human intelligence and capabilities on tasks such as complex decision-making, reasoning and learning, sophisticated analytics and pattern recognition. Smart systems in communities, in vehicles, in buildings and utilities, on farms and in business processes will save time, money and lives whilst offering opportunities for individuals to enjoy a more-customized future.

Mr Michael Michie, went on to say “At some point, this intelligence will be more superior than ours, whether we like it or not”. He further stated “AI will leave humans to end up becoming creatives, before they become emotionally adept, will they do art too?” Before he went on to allude to the changes that would happen to society, belief systems, and even family.

The understanding to the level at which humans can sustain a technologically stimulated environment, is by striking the balance. Meaning knowledge-driven algorithms based on mathematical optimisation, Operations Research, and human know-how as well as data-driven algorithms based on advanced analytics and machine learning. The end result being that consumers or customers get the best out of both worlds, as leveraging computer algorithms with human expertise yields results significantly superior to both.
