When you were younger, did you ever wish to go on adventures with explorer cum journalist Tintin and his sidekick Snowy and occasionally, the rum-loving Captain Haddock? Well, now you can! Following the successful beta-launch on Google Play, 5th Planet Games and Moulinsart are proud to announce the release of Tintin Match, an exciting and fun match 3 mobile game that launches globally on Android and iOS August 31st.
Tintin, the hero of our childhoods, might have inspired a few careers while being the BFF we would all like to have. The kind of friend who has your back. The Adventures of Tintin might date back to 1929 but the man he turns out to still resonates in 2020. Drawn with a hardy, blond-topped quiff that would now require gobs of hair gel to stand, he is said to be aged around 14 to 19 making him a rather precocious reporter, with a “sharp intellect, can defend himself, and is honest, decent, compassionate, and kind. Through his investigative reporting, quick-thinking, and all-around good nature, Tintin is always able to solve the mystery and complete the adventure.”
Today, The Adventures of Tintin continues to inspire artists, writers, movie and theatre directors alike. Not to mention how he embodies universal values turning him into a unique mix, combining exciting stories, a ligne claire drawing style influenced by American comic strips, crafted by his creator, George Prosper Remi pen-named Hergé, and the familiar themes of his bande dessinée albums, French for comics album.

We’re very excited about this opportunity to introduce Tintin to mobile gamers around the world. To let players take on the role of the everyday-man-detective and solve puzzles and mysteries on their own, through a fun and familiar game mechanic, is a great way to expand the Tintin universe.
Moulinsart actively contributed to the artistic realisation of the interface, the “sprites” and the characters of the game with the support of his studios. They are the worldwide exclusive owner of all exploitation rights of Hergé’s work, including the copyrights, as well as the reproduction rights and the adaptation rights. They, like 5th Planet Games, are beyond thrilled.
Nick Rodwell, Managing Director of Moulinsart, and whose Studios actively contributed to the artistic development of this game, reiterates. “We’re very excited about this opportunity to introduce Tintin to mobile gamers around the world. To let players take on the role of the everyday-man-detective and solve puzzles and mysteries on their own, through a fun and familiar game mechanic, is a great way to expand the Tintin universe. We very much hope that it will be a huge hit among fans of both Tintin and puzzle games throughout the world”.
It is evident that the rapid rise of smartphone gaming has inevitably changed the industry. Match 3 games like Tintin Match are the most prominent subgenre on the US iPhone gaming market, accounting for 21 per cent of the total revenue according to mobile game insight and analytics firm GameRefinery. Tintin Match is a child-friendly game just like the comics and TV animation series have been; perfect for all players aged 9 and above. The game is free to play and is, of course, available on both Google Play and Apple App Store from 31 August. There is also a plan to release it on Chinese Android stores later.
Tintin is a global celebrity, famous all over the world. Distributed worldwide, Tintin’s adventures are still devoured with the same enthusiasm since its debut back in 1929 in the pages of Le Petit Vingtième as it is by Tintin lovers in 2020. It is doubtful Hergé, an autodidact comic book artist who was lucky enough to publish his work during his teenage years in the pages of Belgium’s scout magazines, envisioned so. Or, maybe he did, and would take it with a yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
