Stanbic Bank Promotes Joshua Oigara To Lead East Africa Operations

Stanbic Bank Kenya CEO Joshua Oigara has been promoted to head Standard Bank Group’s East Africa operations, pending regulatory approval.

He will succeed Patrick Mweheire, whose five-year term concludes on August 31, 2025.

In his expanded role, Oigara will oversee the group’s operations in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Tanzania, while also leading Stanbic Bank Kenya and South Sudan, SBG Securities, and Stanbic Insurance Agency Limited.

Stanbic described Oigara as “an industry pioneer who has advanced the region’s growth through transformative leadership,” highlighting his role in driving digitization and partnering with regulators to expand financial inclusion through technology-driven solutions and enabling policies.

Oigara joined Stanbic Bank as CEO in December 2022, after serving as Group CEO of KCB Bank for nine years.
