SimbaNET Malawi was honored with the award of Best African Terrestrial Project at the recently concluded Capacity Africa Awards held in Kampala, Uganda for successful, construction, deployment and operation of its 900 kilometer fiber network and Virtual Landing station in Malawi.
“This award demonstrates that our efforts in partnership with the Malawian Government to bring world class infrastructure into Malawi as part of the strategy to lower broadband prices, stimulate investment and enhance competition are already bearing fruit within less than a year of operation. We consider ourselves a solid partner in the development of communications services in Africa,” said Mr. Rakesh Kukreja – Managing Director of Wananchi Business Services, the regional group of companies that SimbaNet Malawi is part of.
The network constructed by SimbaNet provides Malawi with geographically redundant connectivity via Tanzania in the North and Zambia in the West and provides direct access to the TEAMs, EASSY, SEACOM and WACS submarine cable systems. It also links into the Wananchi Business Services fiber network assets in the region, providing excellent cross-border connectivity. This has led to a substantial decrease of wholesale Internet prices.
