Safaricom Eneza Education for Shupavu 291 has been nominated under the Best Mobile Innovation for Education category at the Global Mobile Awards (GLOMOs).
The GLOMO Awards are the most distinguished awards in the mobile industry organized by GSMA. Winners of the awards are presented throughout Mobile World Congress (MWC), which takes place February 26 – March 1 in Barcelona. for the GLOMO Awards 2018.
Shupavu291 service is a Short Messaging Service(SMS) study tool which enables Primary and Secondary students to access Kenya National Curriculum aligned lessons, assessments, ASK A Teacher and Wikipedia. Teachers can also access teacher development courses and Parents can access a basic business course.

The service is more affordable than the purchase of school textbooks and other reading materials for students. It costs Ksh. 10/= for a weekly subscription. It can be accessed anywhere at any given time provided there is a mobile phone with a Safaricom Line.
To register, pupils are required to dial *291# and press send or send the word START to the number 20851.
Other nominees in this category include Bombay Natural History Society and Accenture for Internet of Birds, Ericsson with UNESCO, UK-DFID, Qualcomm and other partners for Connect to Learn Myanmar, Paltel Group for Empowering e-Learning, and Turk Telekom for Project Sunshine Games.

The GLOMO Awards will include the presentation of winners in three categories including “Social Good”, “Government Excellence Award” and “Mobile Tech”, alongside the “Judges’ Choice” awards.
Winners of awards in the “Outstanding Achievement” category, including the “GSMA’s Outstanding Contribution to the Mobile Industry” and the “Women4Tech Industry Leadership” awards, and the “Chairman’s Award for Government Innovation in an Emerging Market” will be announced in separate ceremonies during the course of Mobile World Congress.
