Safaricom Names Director Of Public Sector Digital Transformation
Safaricom has appointed Boniface Mungania as the Director of Public Sector Digital Transformation effective 1st April 2023.
According to a press release by the telco, Boniface, who will report directly to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, will be responsible for developing partnerships with the public sector to drive digital transformation for the national and county governments.
“I would like to thank Boniface Mungania for his leadership of the Financial Services Team over the last 8 months. During this period, we made great strides in delivering our financial services mission including receiving regulatory approval for some of our strategic initiatives as well as launching platforms such MPESA Go and supporting the government launch of the Hustler Fund,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said.

In the new role, he is expected to collaborate with key functional owners including enterprise, financial services, technology and business development to deliver solutions in an agile way.
Safaricom said Boniface will also support in identifying opportunities within the public sector where the government can digitize through technology and recommending the right solutions to the national and county governments. He will also champion and lead the design adoption and implementation of transformative digital transformation initiatives in the sector.
Boniface has been the acting Chief Financial Officer since July 2022. He joined Safaricom in 2007 as a Customer Care Representative and was soon promoted to Dealer Account Manager. In 2011, he joined the Financial Services as Senior Manager, M-PESA Business Development. Since then, he has grown and held various leadership roles in Financial Services including Senior Manager, M-PESA Business Development, Mobile Financial Services Consultant (Vodafone Qatar) and Head of M-PESA Products and Services Development. In October 2021, Boniface was appointed the Payments Tribe Lead.
