Paul Wilson Steps Down as APNIC Director General After Over 25 Years
Paul Wilson has announced his resignation as Director General of the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC), effective 30 June 2024. Wilson, who has served the APNIC community for more than a quarter of a century, made the announcement during the APNIC 57 meeting in Bangkok, Thailand.
After a long period of consideration, Wilson has decided to step down to pursue personal interests that are not compatible with the responsibilities of his current role. He informed the Executive Council (EC) of his decision on 26 February, following an initial notification of his intentions back in November of the previous year.
Wilson has played a pivotal role in the development of the internet within the Asia Pacific region, contributing significantly to the management of the APNIC registry and advocating for a secure and open internet. Recognizing his contributions, the EC has expressed its gratitude for his dedicated service.

With Wilson’s pending departure, he has offered to assist with the transition to a new Director General until the end of 2024, if necessary. The EC will soon start the recruitment process for his successor, promising to keep the community informed and inviting interested candidates to apply in the coming weeks.
A farewell event for Wilson is planned to take place at APNIC 58 in Wellington, New Zealand, in September 2024, where his contributions and legacy will be acknowledged.
