Netlix’s Gaming Efforts Taking Shape
Netflix is here to take the gaming world by storm. Recently, they hired former Electric Arts (EA) executive Mike Verdu to lead the charge for their gaming efforts. Verdu was part of EA’s most successful game franchises such as Need For Speed and Battlefield.
The streaming giant revealed that its initial efforts in gaming will be focused on mobile games and that the games will be included with users’ Netflix subscriptions, the company announced as part of its second-quarter earnings report earlier during the week.
Netflix has already dipped its toes into the world of gaming through Bandersnatch, but they are still newbies around interactivity in games, and said that this would be prioritised in their upcoming creations.

“We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV,” said the report. “Games will be included in members’ Netflix subscription at no additional cost similar to films and series. Initially, we’ll be primarily focused on games for mobile devices.”
