Nakumatt issues cheques worth Kshs 43million in ‘Smart Points’ payout

More than 3,000 Nakumatt shoppers have received school fees cheques valued at more than Kshs 43 million, drawn out as part of their loyalty points’ redemption with the retailer.

This first academic term, Nakumatt Holdings, has been redeeming its loyal customers Smart Points at the rate of Kshs 2 with a 10 per cent added bonus as part of an initiative to support educational development,

At the current Kshs 43 Million rate, Nakumatt shoppers are likely to draw out cheques valued at more than Kshs 120 million by the close of the year confirming the programmes growing popularity. The programme allows Nakumatt shoppers to redeem their accumulated Smart points for school fees cheques drawn in favour of their school of choice.

To accommodate customers’ wishing to redeem their points for students joining form one, Nakumatt Holdings Managing Director Atul Shah said the firm had also extended the redemption period to the end of February as part of the retailer’s contribution to education development.

The unique redemption programme had earlier been slated to close last week and is one of the numerous benefits extended to loyal Nakumatt Smart card holders.

A significant number of Nakumatt Shoppers he noted have been redeeming their points for the benefit of their domestic workers including drivers, house helps, gardeners, relatives and friends confirming the spirit of sharing.

“Nakumatt’s contribution to academic advancement is borne out of the popular demand by a majority of our smart shoppers,” Shah said. “Alongside this programme, we shall continue extending a number of other reward programmes for our customers’ as we remain grateful for their loyal patronage.”

The Nakumatt Smart Points redemption plan for school fees programme, Shah reiterated is open to all shoppers; including those who may not necessarily have school going children but who opt to redeem their points in favour of their domestic staffers, extended family members or other needy friend.

“The Nakumatt Smart Points for School fees redemption programme is an effective avenue to extend your gratitude to your neighbor, domestic staff, or even colleague and will go a long way in relieving them of their school fees burden,” Shah noted.

And added: “All Nakumatt Smart Card holders are encouraged to routinely redeem their accumulated points at every start of a school term as part of their value added benefits for shopping at Nakumatt.”

The more than 1 million Nakumatt Smart Card holders enjoy numerous benefits, which include discounts, earning extra points on purchase of specific products and higher redemption value for products during offer periods.

Following the 2013 launch of a new generation Nakumatt Global Prepaid MasterCard loyalty card, in partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank and Diamond Trust Bank, the retailer has been actively replacing its old generation smart cards with a new EMV compliant loyalty card.

The new generation multi-currency Nakumatt Global Prepaid MasterCard loyalty card provides a range of enhanced benefits and security features. Nakumatt Global Prepaid MasterCard cardholders also earn smart points for purchases made with the card at any of the over 35.9 million acceptance points, including 2.1 million ATMs, where MasterCard is accepted worldwide.
