Glomo Awards, the industry’s leading stage for innovation, excellence and achievement, are presented at Mobile World Congress.
Both Funkidz and Safaricom’s Women in Tech have been nominated under Women4Tech Mobile Industry Leadership (Organisations). The other category focusing on women will be the Women4Tech Mobile Industry Leadership (Individuals).
This Category recognizes best practices in terms of initiatives, programmes and policies by organisations and companies.

Safaricom Women in technology (WIT) is a network of passionate ambitious women working within Technology related careers across industry. The network, championed by women working within Technology division of Safaricom was founded late 2012.
WIT seeks to facilitate a platform where women in technology space in Kenya can network, share and offer a wider range of support initiatives and resources to advance their careers and advocate for more girls choosing careers in Technology.
FunKidz, a platform started about four years ago, helps children use technology to design and make things.

The awards are part of GSMA Women4Tech, which is focused on successfully addressing the gender gap in the mobile industry by showcasing this issue and industry action, and building networks for future action at GSMA events.
Gender equality in technology strengthens the industry and builds valuable professional communities and networks. It also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and in particular SDG 5: “to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.”
Collectively, Women4Tech seeks to drive the greater inclusion of women and girls in the mobile and digital ecosystem through improving gender equality in education, the industry and the economy.

With the support from the public and private sector, globally, Women4Technology focuses on four key areas around, empowering Technology, encouraging Technology:
e.g. Mentorship Programmes, Education and Youth Programmes, transforming Technology and Innovating in Technology.
The special Women4Tech Award will recognize and celebrates leadership in the establishment of initiatives, programmes and policies by organisations and companies to encourage and retain women and girls in the telecommunications industry or in the larger mobile entrepreneurial ecosystem.
