MTN Group Appoints Shoyinka Shodunke As IT Executive
MTN Group has appointed Shoyinka Shodunke as Executive: IT Core Design and Delivery, effective 1 March 2026. The move is aimed at strengthening the telecommunications operator’s technology architecture and digital transformation strategy across its markets.
Shodunke joins the role with nearly three decades of experience in technology leadership, innovation and digital transformation within Africa’s telecommunications industry. His career spans several senior positions across the continent, including Director of Technology at Vodafone Ghana, Chief Technology and Information Officer at MTN Cameroon, and Chief Information Officer roles at MTN Zambia and MTN South Africa. He also previously served as General Manager for Architecture at the MTN Shared Services Hub in Southeast Africa.
Prior to his new appointment, Shodunke was Chief Information Officer at MTN Nigeria, where he led large-scale digital initiatives affecting more than 80 million subscribers and managed a technology organisation of over 350 professionals.

Throughout his career, he has focused on building resilient technology systems and driving innovation through collaboration. His work has also involved exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can support human creativity, strengthen system resilience and enable scalable innovation within telecommunications environments.
In 2025, Shodunke was named MTN Group CIO of the Year for his role in advancing the company’s digital transformation agenda as it continues to evolve from a traditional telecommunications provider into an AI-enabled technology organisation. He also received the Tech Champion in Telecoms and CIO of the Year honours at the CIO and C-Suite Awards Africa.
Academically, Shodunke has completed an Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School, holds an MBA from the University of Northampton, a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Management from the University of Salford Manchester, and a Bachelor of Technology in Mathematics and Statistics from the Federal University of Technology Akure.

In his new role, Shodunke will oversee the development and execution of standardised IT architectures across MTN’s operating companies. His responsibilities will include advancing AI-driven automation, predictive analytics and digital transformation initiatives aimed at improving customer experience, enhancing operational efficiency and accelerating innovation across the group’s technology ecosystem.
