The Communications Authority of Kenya has announced the appointment of Mercy Wanjau to take over after former Director General, Francis Wangusi, albeit in an interim position. Wangusi retires after serving two consecutive terms.
Wangusi, represented the Authority in the preparation of the Kenya – Italy bilateral agreement on the utilization of the San Marco Space Centre and operationalization of the National Space Secretariat.
“We are confident that Ms Wanjau has what it takes to coordinate the duties relating to the Director General in the interim pending the substantive appointment of a Director General,” said: CA Chairman, Ngene Gituku.

Mercy, who was until her elevation the Director for Legal Services at the Communications Authority, has been with the regulator for about thirteen years. She has served as the Assistant Director, Regulator and Governance rising steadily to her most recent position – Director, Legal Services at the regulator.
She brings expertise into the director general position, having graduated with a Masters of Law (LLM) from the University of Cape Town. She also has a post graduate Certificate in Regulation of Telecommunications in Developing and Transitional Economies from the University of Westminster and yet another degree, Advanced Management Program from the Strathmore Business School.
Wanjau also doubles as the Chairperson for the taskforce for development of a privacy and data protection framework for Kenya.
