Safaricom has announced that M-Pesa services are set to be unavailable from 11pm Saturday 21st March, 2015; the scheduled absence of the services has been credited to maintenance.
According to a brief statement, accompanying an add of the scheduled maintenance, in the Friday edition of the Daily Nation, the reason for the maintenance is to provide the best possible services to customers.
“We are working on M-Pesa so that we can serve you better,” read the statement. “We wish to notify our customers that as part of our commitment to consistently improve customer experience on M-Pesa, we have a scheduled maintenance.”

The services are set to resume regular function at 8am Sunday March 22, 2015.
The scheduled maintenance is something Safaricom has done before, according to a report CIO East Africa. In January 2012, Safaricom notified its customers of a similar planned upgrade on its M-PESA service.
During the upgrade – carried out between 8 pm on Saturday (January 21st) and 6 am on Sunday (January 22nd) – the M-PESA services were not available.

Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore spoke about the upgrade at the time informing customers that it was expected to enhance the M-PESA offering and ensure that the platform continues to deliver more innovative services.
“We wish to thank our customers for their continued support and understanding and assure them that this upgrade is necessary in order to grow the M-PESA service menu and improve overall customer experience.” Collymore said, assuring customers (at the time).
